YouTube is the second most popular website in the entire world, trailing just behind it’s older sister, Google. There are more than 2.2 billion logged-in users on YouTube every month, and this year alone, more than five billion dollars will be made in advertising on the platform. Video has shown to drive more than twice the ROI as text and image-based ads, which means you definitely want to get a piece of that pie.
Create a Professional Website
If you don’t already have a website for your customer base to find you, now’s the time to build one, or have one created for you. You can sell successfully from social media, but a website is another crucial point of contact between you and your target market. In order to fully own your site, you’ll want to go the self-hosted route and use WordPress.org (not to be confused with WordPress.com.). WP Engine is a great choice of hosts, and they’ll help you get all set up, so even if you’re not familiar with building sites on WordPress, it should be quick and easy. You can learn more about WP Engine here.
Build an Email List
There are so many reasons to create an email list for your business, the first of which is that you know without a doubt that the people signing up are interested in what you’re offering. So, once you’ve got that list, you have a loyal base of potential customers to pitch your products/services to. You can use a plugin like Hustle to create ways for subscribers to sign up. If you don’t have much luck in the beginning, try adding an incentive, like a free download. Mailerlite has a free option and is a wonderful alternative to other programs, like Mailchimp.

No matter what age range your target market is comprised of, if it includes women, you want to be on Pinterest. While many people may think it’s just a place where lifestyle bloggers post recipes and fashion tips, it’s so much more. It’s essentially another search engine, and a huge one, which can drive a crazy amount of traffic to your website, if utilized correctly. One thing about Pinterest is, you need to post several times per day to drive that traffic. We know that can take a lot of time and effort, which is why we offer our monthly SEO Pinterest marketing and management plans!
Optimize for Search Engines
And, speaking of search engines, let’s talk about why it’s so important to optimize your content for them, a process that’s otherwise known as SEO. SEO is a crucial step in content marketing, because if that content isn’t optimized, it’s just going to get buried under the pages and pages of sites from your competitors that are. There are several things you can do to get your site SEO-friendly, including keyword research and using a plugin like Yoast on your site. Check out my post on other things you can do to boost your SEO and Google search rankings here.
Make it Mobile Friendly
A person’s smartphone is basically a part of them these days. One can do everything from their phone, and usually, that’s exactly what they do, including purchasing from online businesses. If your site isn’t mobile-friendly, you’re going to drive these potential sales away and straight to a competitor’s door. However, if you’ve got a design that makes it easy for users to navigate through your sales funnel on their phone, there’s a 74% chance they’ll come back to buy again.
Talk to a Creative Consultant
If you’re feeling stuck when it comes to your brand’s digital marketing strategy, you can always talk to an expert, and learn more about what you can do to connect with more of those potential customers. A creative marketing consultant will help you work through any struggles you’re facing in your current campaign, and design a new one that works best for your business.
Monitor Your Analytics
Using Google Analytics to monitor the success (or lack thereof) of all of your content. You’ll be able to see which of your pages or posts are attracting the most visitors, which referral sources they’re coming from, and more. This will enable you to continue to shape your content marketing strategy in a way that brings you more traffic and potential customers.
Engage Your Market
Engagement is a big part of running a successful digital marketing campaign, and requires that you spend a substantial amount of time connecting meaningfully with your followers, influencers, and other major players when it comes to the success of your brand. Make sure you’re not only posting your own content on a regular basis, but share things that others have posted, and like/comment on posts that are relevant to your industry.
